Seaspan Recognized for Environmental Sustainability with Two Blue Circle Awards

June 6, 2024

Seaspan is pleased to share that we have been awarded two Blue Circle Awards from the Port of Vancouver, recognizing our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability across both Seaspan Marine and Seaspan Shipyards.

This marks the eighth consecutive year that Seaspan Marine has won the award as part of active participation in the Port’s EcoAction Program, and the first year that Seaspan Shipyards has been recognized in a new category which focuses on energy management, efficiency, and emissions reductions.

“Seaspan is honoured to receive two Blue Circle Awards this year from the Port of Vancouver – one that recognizes the efforts of our marine team for utilizing alternate fuels and for using shore power as a standard practice across our fleets. And an award for Seaspan Shipyards under the Energy Action Program, which recognizes our energy reduction initiatives which resulted in well over 600,000 kWh in electrical savings in 2023”, said Daryl Lawes, Senior Environment Manager at Seaspan. “I am so proud of our teams across both the Marine and Shipyards divisions for driving positive changes that are making a difference across our business and in the broader industry.”

Seaspan Shipyard’s Blue Circle Award was granted in part due to energy use assessments which were conducted at Vancouver Shipyards and Vancouver Drydock, development of a Strategic Energy Management plan at Vancouver Shipyards and achieving emissions reductions through LED lighting upgrades and introducing electric shuttle buses. These projects alone resulted in well over 600,000 kWh in electrical savings and over 400 Metric Tonnes of CO2e emissions reduction in 2023.
