Since time immemorial, Indigenous Peoples have walked on the diverse traditional territories where the Seaspan community is grateful to work, live and play. We are committed to building and nurturing relationships with Indigenous Peoples. We acknowledge their traditional lands, and we thank them for their hospitality.

Indigenous Engagement at Seaspan

At Seaspan, we recognize the importance of Indigenous Peoples’ long history and connections with the lands and waters where we live and work. We are grateful to operate within the traditional territories of the First Nation communities located in Northwest B.C., and Coast Salish Peoples and are committed to developing respectful relationships and engaging in constructive consultation with our neighbouring First Nations, including the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh, Squamish, Haisla, Tsawwassen, Snuneymuxw, Esquimalt and Songhees Nations.

We are committed to supporting the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the Call for Action on Business and Reconciliation by:

  • Developing respectful relationships and engaging in constructive consultation with neighbouring First Nations related to projects and business activities of mutual interest
  • Creating meaningful partnerships, including job opportunities and long-term economic benefits, for the local Indigenous communities connected to our projects and business activities
  • Providing Indigenous-related education within Seaspan to create a respectful workplace and intercultural competent workforce
