ISO 14001 is a family of standards related to environmental management that exists to help organizations minimize their environmental impacts, comply with applicable laws, regulations and requirements, and works to continually improve environmental performance.
Green Marine is an environmental certification program for the North American marine industry. It is a voluntary, transparent and inclusive initiative that addresses key environmental issues through its 11 performance indicators, eight of which are applicable to Seaspan’s operations. The cornerstone of the Green Marine initiative is its far-reaching environmental program, which makes it possible for any marine company operating in Canada or the U.S. to reduce its environmental footprint by undertaking concrete and measurable actions. Our annual performance can be found here.
The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s EcoAction Program recognizes a variety of fuel, technology and environmental management options that are eligible to receive discounted harbour due rates. The EcoAction Program promotes emission reduction measures that exceed the current North American Emission Control Area (NA-ECA) requirements adopted under the International Maritime Organization, while vessels operate within Port Metro Vancouver’s jurisdiction. Seaspan’s vessels qualify for the GOLD standard through the dedication to shore power and Green Marine initiatives.

As part of our certified ISO 9001 Quality Management System, our shipyard Customers complete a performance evaluation questionnaire following all repair work on our shipyards – we include an environmental performance question to get feedback on how we are doing.
