Seaspan receives eighth consecutive Blue Circle Award for environmental leadership

At Seaspan, we’re conscious stewards of the lands in which we live, work and play. On June 2, we proudly accepted two Blue Circle Awards from the Port of Vancouver in recognition of our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability across both Seaspan Marine and Seaspan Shipyards.

The awards recognize the environmental & energy leadership of terminals, tenants, marine operators, and cruise and shipping lines at the Port of Vancouver; they’re a prestigious accolade in BC’s maritime sector that showcase Seaspan as a leader in environmental & energy management on the West Coast.

“Year after year, Seaspan continues to make real, significant progress on our environmental and energy management goals. These awards are a reflection of this momentum and of the hard work our Marine and Shipyards teams do to increase energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact and deliver real change for our company, our communities, and the environment.” said Onyi Chidolue, Industrial Energy Manager.

Seaspan Shipyards was recognized with its third Blue Circle Award for accomplishing savings of 1.2 GWh across Vancouver Shipyards and Vancouver Drydock through: energy saving projects, including lighting and ventilation upgrades and compressed air system improvements; employee engagement, including employee energy shutdown campaigns and compressed air management initiatives; implementing a sub-metering and Energy Management Information System (EMIS) at Vancouver Shipyards; and completing Integrated Energy Audits and Energy Opportunity Assessments at all three shipyards.

The Seaspan Marine team won its eighth Blue Circle Award for making investments in technologies and practices that support a healthy environment, including for shore power usage across the fleet, participation in the Green Marine Program and Seaspan Ferries’ ongoing and improved use of batteries, biofuel and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
