Having a safe, healthy and engaged workforce is core to our business. We seek to be a company that continues to attract, develop and retain talented and engaged employees, and to be an employer of choice.

Fostering a workplace where everyone is included, valued and equipped for today and the future is a strategic priority for us, and the reason behind the launch of an Indigenous Advisory Committee at Victoria Shipyards. This Committee is a grassroots team focused on promoting an inclusive and equitable workplace for all. Through input from Indigenous employees, the committee works to foster a sustainable future for Seaspan and its workforce. Sponsored by senior leadership, the Indigenous Advisory Committee is made up of volunteer members who meet monthly to raise and action opportunities for improvement in alignment with committee terms and Seaspan’s core values. Apprentice program

All trade apprentices working at Seaspan share a common goal of achieving their Red Seal endorsement and becoming a certified Journeyperson. Most apprentice opportunities at Seaspan require candidates to have successfully completed their foundations or level 1 of training at a recognized training institution. Seaspan apprentices must be sponsored either by the company or an affiliated union partner. The sponsor is responsible for training the apprentice under a certified tradesperson, tracking and reporting work-based training hours, allowing time to attend school, evaluating their performance, and recommending for certification. Seaspan-sponsored apprenticeship openings can be found on our website in the Careers page under Job Openings. Union sponsored apprentices are selected and sponsored by a Seaspan-affiliated union partner and can be dispatched to a shipyard location. For more information, scroll to the bottom of our Careers page, or email [email protected]

Seaspan has also partnered with Aboriginal Community Career Employment Services Society (ACCESS) – ACCESS provides education and training services to Indigenous people living in Greater Vancouver. Seaspan has collaborated with ACCESS since 2016. ACCESS serves to enhance human resource development and the sustainable capacity of the urban Indigenous population in Greater Vancouver through the provision of employment and training services.
