We have just become aware that a member of Seaspan Shipyards’ team has tested positive for COVID-19. The employee, who works at Vancouver Drydock, was last at work on Tuesday, September 8, and is currently self-isolating at home. We are committed to supporting this employee and to respecting their privacy. I ask that you do the same.
Our top priority remains protecting the health and safety of our employees. We are working in close collaboration with Seaspan’s COVID-19 medical consultants and Public Health officials and implementing prepared COVID-19 response protocols. Co-workers who we believe may have been in close contact with this individual have been notified and directed to remain home and self-isolate.
Consistent with Public Health official guidance, the risk of transmission to employees who were not in close contact is assessed to be low and VDC remains open and operational. We have also conducted a thorough deep cleaning and sanitization of impacted work areas and common spaces.
This is a reminder to all of us that COVID-19 remains in our community, developments remain fluid, and we need to remain vigilant. In line with the guidance of Public Health officials, there is no need to get tested if you do not have symptoms. If you feel you need to be tested however, please complete the self-assessment at bc.thrive.health. If you are experiencing symptoms or feeling unwell, stay home, advise your supervisor and seek appropriate medical attention.
Finally, on behalf of all of us at Seaspan, I want to extend our support and best wishes to our colleague who has tested positive. I am grateful to this individual who proactively got tested at the first sign of feeling unwell. In doing so, this colleague mitigated the risks for others and demonstrated the important responsibility we all have to keep ourselves, and each other, safe.
