Two Seaspan Shipyards Employees Among 2022 Women in Defence & Security Emerging Leaders

March 3, 2022

Two women from Seaspan Shipyards are among this year’s list of Women in Defence & Security (WiDS) emerging leaders – the annual WiDs campaign to celebrate a diverse slate of women across every career level who are doing great things, helping to inspire change, and setting an example for other young women to follow.

Representing the women working at Seaspan Shipyards in both the professional ranks and in the skilled trades, Niyousha Esmaeili and Chantelle Krangle were among the women celebrated at the 2022 WiDS Annual Awards Breakfast on March 3, 2022. The event includes participation from individuals and organizations from across the defence and security industries with a focus on celebrating WiDS annual scholarship and fellowship winners and its emerging leaders.

A professional engineer at Seaspan Shipyards, Niyousha drives to continuously improve production processes while making a difference in the daily lives of the people building ships under Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS). Equally comfortable on the deck plate and in the office, Niyousha’s hands-on experience and engineering expertise enable her to inspire teams to collaborate to maximize efficiency and quality. Her natural leadership is well-recognized, and she was recently promoted to manufacturing engineer in a supervisory role. By forging relationships across the shipyard and mentoring other women, she is also helping change the face of shipbuilding in Canada.

Chantelle is a Red Seal-certified metal fabricator who has progressed through the Seaspan Shipyards apprenticeship program to a leadership role as leadhand, helping supervise teams constructing the next generation of ships for Canada under the NSS. She continuously seeks out new opportunities and challenges and is on-track to complete her Marine Shipfitter Endorsement in 2022. She is a member of Seaspan’s Emergency Response team, acts as liaison on the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee, helps support recruitment efforts to inspire skilled trades to join the growing shipbuilding industry, and is proud to be part of the supportive community of women at Seaspan.

Seaspan Shipyards sponsored this year’s Emerging Leaders event as part of its commitment to achieving and maintaining a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the values and diversity of all the people who live and work in our community.
