Seaspan raises $200,000 for United Way British Columbia

February 1, 2023

2022 was a record-breaking year for Seaspan’s annual fundraising campaign for the United Way. Seaspan is donating $200,000 to United Way British Columbia, which represents the largest single contribution that Seaspan has ever made to United Way during its annual fundraising campaign. The grand total will be divided with $150,000 benefiting United Way Lower Mainland and $50,000 to support United Way Victoria.

“Over the past few years, our communities have faced unprecedented challenges and the need for support from the United Way British Columbia has never been greater,” said James Clarke, Chief Financial Officer of Seaspan Shipyards. “As Seaspan’s Executive Chair for United Way, I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to 2022’s record-breaking campaign. Our donation will have a positive impact on our neighbours in the Lower Mainland and Victoria.”

“I am so proud of our entire team across Vancouver Shipyards, Vancouver Drydock and Victoria Shipyards for coming together to break Seaspan’s donation record for the United Way,” said John McCarthy, CEO of Seaspan Shipyards. “Seaspan has a long history of giving back and it is our honour to continue to support the United Way in their mission of supporting healthy, caring and inclusive communities.”

“As a long-serving member of BC’s maritime community, we take pride in supporting our neighbours through incredible organizations such as the United Way,” said Ian McIver, President of Seaspan Energy. “I am proud of our team’s generosity and for breaking Seaspan’s previous fundraising record – we know these funds will go a long way in supporting our communities.”
