Get to know the enthusiastic interns making waves at Seaspan this summer!
This semester, we welcomed 42 new and returning interns from a variety of different disciplines ranging from Engineering, Business, and Computer Sciences. Our internship program offers students hands-on experience, training, and insights of the shipbuilding industry.
We hope to empower and support students’ success through a supportive environment that allows on-the-job learning.

Teresa Tien– Business Technology Solution Intern
Tell us about yourself:
I am a first-year MBA student at the University of Toronto.
What is your role at Seaspan?
I am a business technology solution intern in the IT department (Business Technology Solution Organization – Data and Digital Thread). My primary responsibility is to search for possible data governance solutions based on Seaspan’s demand and existing condition, conduct interviews with internal stakeholders to gather their expectations for future data usage, and develop an implementation plan for the solution.
What are you hoping to take away from your InternSHIP at Seaspan?
I want to develop excellent professional relationships with my coworkers and superiors, creating an environment of collaboration and mutual support. In addition, I am eager to obtain a comprehensive domain knowledge of the data governance field as well as experience developing solution implementation plans.

Narciso Canete Jr. – Occupational Hygiene Intern
Tell us about yourself:
I am originally from the Philippines and currently pursuing a master’s degree in occupational and environmental Hygiene at UBC, with a background in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS).
What is your role at Seaspan?
As an Occupational Hygiene Intern at Seaspan, I get to do hands-on monitoring of workplace conditions and analyze the data to identify potential hazards. I also help develop programs to improve our health and safety practices, ensuring we continually enhance our safety measures. It’s a great mix of fieldwork and strategic planning that keeps things interesting!
What are you hoping to take away from your InternSHIP at Seaspan?
I’m hoping to gain hands-on experience in occupational hygiene monitoring, learn how to develop effective programs, and understand the unique health and safety challenges in the shipbuilding industry at Seaspan.

Michael Eng – Production Support and Ship Construction Intern
Tell us about yourself:
I am currently a fourth-year undergraduate student completing a degree in mechanical engineering with Biomedical Concentration at the University of British Columbia.
What is your role at Seaspan?
I hold the role of Intern, Production Support – Ship Construction. This role is in the Production Planning and Control Department at the Operations Centre. In this role I’ve been able to observe and be on the front lines of the ship construction going on here at Vancouver Shipyards, tackling a variety of engineering and production related problems day to day.
What are you hoping to take away from your InternSHIP at Seaspan?
I am excited to apply my skill set to the marine industry and learn more about the National Shipbuilding Strategy. I hope to assist in the increase of production and operational efficiency while also forming connections with the other interns and industry professionals.

Samantha Chan – COE Lab Intern
Tell us about yourself:
I am a second-year mechanical engineering student at the University of Waterloo.
What is your role at Seaspan?
I am the intern for the COE lab, which involves conducting mechanical tests, preparing material specimens, writing lab reports, certifying weld processes, and ensuring all procedure follow external standards.
What are you hoping to take away from your InternSHIP at Seaspan?
I hope to gain valuable experience with working collectively with other people in the ship building industry.

Ivy Mckay – Change Planning Intern
Tell us about yourself:
I am a third-year mechanical engineering student at UBC Vancouver.
What is your role at Seaspan?
As the Change Planning Intern, I assist my department with updating and creating Shop Orders to communicate design changes between engineering and production. One of my daily tasks is applying Stop Works to prevent unnecessary or incorrect work from occurring.
What are you hoping to take away from your InternSHIP at Seaspan?
I’m hoping to gain an understanding of operations in a shipyard, the ship building industry, and the role of planning and production support at Seaspan.

Anna Marshall – In-Service Support & Integrated Logistics Support
Tell us about yourself:
I will be going into my third-year of mechanical engineering at Queen’s this Fall.
What is your role at Seaspan?
Intern, In-Service Support & Integrated Logistics Support. In this position, we get to get excellent insight into the sparing and provisioning of the ships. We get to do tasks such as go over system breakdowns, attend government meetings, and assist LSA engineers with various tasks.
What are you hoping to take away from your InternSHIP at Seaspan?
I am hoping to have gained a lot of new skills using various software that can be applicable in all aspects of my career, as well as use this opportunity to network and improve my teamwork skills in a professional environment.

Devin Woudenberg – Naval Architecture Intern
Tell us about yourself:
I attend the University of Victoria, where I’m going into my fourth-year of mechanical engineering. Outside of work I enjoy being outdoors hiking in the mountains and playing basketball.
What is your role at Seaspan?
This summer I’m working as the Naval Architecture Intern helping the Naval Architecture department with various tasks.
What are you hoping to take away from your InternSHIP at Seaspan?
I’m hoping to learn about the ship building sector of engineering as well as immersing myself with a company that you get to see every step of the design process.

Jasneet Gill – HR Consulting Intern
Tell us about yourself:
I go to SFU and I’m in my third-year. I am an undergrad business student majoring in HR and Marketing.
What is your role at Seaspan?
I am an HR Consulting Intern. I report to the HRBP of business units of Corporate Supply Chain, BTS, Contracts & Commercial, Corporate Facilities, Quality, Human Resources, and Finance, and DTO. I help with daily tasks. Along with that I am supporting the employee engagement survey initiative.
What are you hoping to take away from your InternSHIP at Seaspan?
I hope I can learn as much as I can about HR consulting within 8 months. I want to make connections which I can carry forward with me and hopefully after my graduation I can come back and work at this amazing organization.

Sanat Sehgal -Corporate Supply Chain Management Intern
Tell us about yourself:
I am going into my fifth and final year at UBC Sauder School of Business, pursuing my Bachelor of Commerce degree with a specialization in Operations and Logistics.
What is your role at Seaspan?
I am the 2024 Summer Intern for the Corporate Supply Chain Department. In my role, I work with, and support two teams namely programs and processes where I focus on new and upcoming projects for Seaspan, and with procurement team, helping them with contracting and sourcing.
What are you hoping to take away from your InternSHIP at Seaspan?
I am hoping to learn as much as I can about this highly specialized and super niche shipbuilding industry as I am interested in this field.

Brady Kreil – Production Support Intern
Tell us about yourself:
I am currently a fourth-year undergraduate student in the manufacturing engineering program at the University of British Columbia.
What is your role at Seaspan?
I am the Production Support Intern. I provide support to the Production Control Teams in the early stages of the manufacturing process.
What are you hoping to take away from your InternSHIP at Seaspan?
I hope to gain a comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing processes in the maritime industry, including learning about all the intricacies of shipbuilding and understanding the challenges faced with manufacturing and contributing to solving real world problems.
