Today, Seaspan Shipyards (Seaspan) officially opened its new state-of-the-art office in North Vancouver, B.C. Located at the foot of Pemberton Avenue on the south western spit of the property near Seaspan’s current offices, the new 7,800 square metre office provides ample space for approximately 390 employees. The building will serve primarily as a collaborative space for Vancouver Shipyards to execute pre-production work as a strategic partner to the Government of Canada under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS).

“Seaspan is a significant part of our community and a major employer in North Vancouver and throughout the Lower Mainland. The opening of its new office further demonstrates Seaspan’s commitment to investing locally and providing more opportunities for years to come.” said Jonathan Wilkinson, MP for North Vancouver.

Designed with a number of environmentally friendly features in mind, the building includes, as examples, passive heating and reduced water use. Funded entirely by Seaspan, the office will enhance Seaspan’s ability to deliver on its commitments to Canadians under the NSS and for various commercial clients.

“I congratulate Seaspan Shipyards on the opening of their exciting new environmentally conscious office in North Vancouver,” added Bowinn Ma, MLA for North Vancouver-Lonsdale. “Seaspan is an important part of our community and a major employer that is demonstrating its commitment to the well-being of its workforce with this investment.”

“Seaspan plays an integral role in our community, providing good jobs to our residents and contributing to a strong local economic base. I congratulate them on both their new office and the many exciting years to come,” said His Worship Richard Walton, Mayor of the District of North Vancouver.

Thanks to the long-term and predictable nature of the NSS, Seaspan Shipyards was able to make significant and planned investments in its people, processes, and facilities. The new office builds on those earlier investments.

“Today is yet another important milestone for our company, employees, and industry,” said Brian Carter, President & CEO – Seaspan Shipyards. “The new building ensures that our dedicated employees are able to work together under one roof, in an environmentally friendly workplace. Our investment is further evidence of Seaspan’s commitment to the National Shipbuilding Strategy and our role as Canada’s long-term strategic partner for non-combat vessels.”

The completion of Seaspan’s new office follows on the heels of the launch of the first large ship to be designed and built under the NSS – the Canadian Coast Guard’s Offshore Fisheries Science Vessel (OFSV). Work continues for the planning, design, engineering and procurement for our next classes’ of vessels: the Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV) for the Canadian Coast Guard and the Joint Support Ships (JSS) for the Royal Canadian Navy.
