John Turner

Vice President Government Relations – Seaspan Shipyards

John was named Vice President of Government Relations at Seaspan Shipyards in August 2019, bringing over 38 years of experience in defence and public policy to the role.

Prior to joining Seaspan, John spent two years at PAL Aerospace, first as Vice President Operations and then as Senior Vice President Business Development. Before his work with PAL, John was part of the Canadian Public Service for 13 years, working in progressively more senior executive roles, including as Regional Deputy Commissioner for the Atlantic Region of Correctional Service Canada; and as Assistant Deputy Minister (Information Management), Assistant Deputy Minister (Materiel) and Associate Deputy Minister at the department of National Defence. Prior to joining the Public Service of Canada, John served for 26-years in the Canadian Army, culminating with appointments as Commanding Officer of the Second Battalion of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, and as Commander of the Joint Operations Group.

John holds a Bachelor in Engineering from the Royal Military College; a Master in Business Administration from Queen’s University; and a Master in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College.

As Vice President Government Relations, John is responsible for building and maintaining Seaspan’s relationships with federal, provincial and local authorities, regulatory agencies and key policy makers.
