Broder Hinrichsen was named the Vice President Technical of Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards in June of 2019, bringing 27 years of naval design and engineering to the role.
Broder joined Vancouver Shipyards in 2018 as Vice President, Engineering. Prior to that, he was with Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) from 2002 to 2018, starting as Manager Steel Design and working in progressively more senior roles until his appointment as Executive Vice President in 2007. Broder’s responsibilities as EVP varied over the period and included overseeing engineering, planning, guarantee and IT functions. Prior to working for FSG, Broder was Deputy Head, Strength and Vibration, at Germanischer Lloyd from 2000 to 2002; and Scientific Assistant at the Institute for Ship Structural Design and Analysis at the University of Hamburg from 1992 to 1999.
Broder obtained his Master’s degree in Naval Architecture in 1992 and PhD in Naval Architecture in 1999, both from the University of Hamburg. Broder was an Associate Professor for Maritime Technology at the University of Southern Denmark from 2015 to 2017.
As Vice President Technical, Broder is focused on optimizing ship design for existing and new programs. He is the technical authority for Seaspan Shipyards and will lead Systems Engineering Management and Technical Assurance across all new construction programs.
