COVID-19 case at VSY – Highest number of cases in a week

Team,

Another employee at VSY has tested positive for COVID-19, making a total of 6 reported cases this week across our shipyards — the highest number of reported cases we have received in a week at Seaspan Shipyards since the pandemic began in early 2020.

The individual last worked on Wednesday morning, August 11, when they were informed they were a potential close contact with a coworker who had tested positive, and left work to isolate at home. Contact tracing has determined there are no close contacts relating to this individual. Although the employee had been identified as a close contact, they believe they were likely exposed to COVID-19 during off work hours, and while car pooling. Their work areas have been cleaned as a precaution and we wish them well in their recovery.

The fact that we have had 6 reported cases this week across VSY and VSL is very concerning. Summer is here and it’s tempting to relax, but we should all be unrelenting in our focus on the preventative measures of physical distancing, hand hygiene and mask-wearing — not only at work, but outside of our workplace too. Please continue to be mindful of these precautions while you go about your day-to-day activities, and I encourage you to get vaccinated as soon as possible if you are eligible. COVID-19 is brought into our workplace from our interactions outside, while we are shopping or socializing in public areas. We must remain diligent and keep ourselves, our loved ones, and our coworkers safe until the virus has been eliminated from our communities.

Please continue to complete your self-assessments every day. Report any changes to your health, however minor. If you feel unwell, stay home. If you have any questions, contact our Wellness team immediately (wellness@seaspan.com; 604-990-3316).
