Victoria, B.C. — Sept. 3, 2026 — Seaspan is pleased to announce that Martin Drews has been promoted to the role of Vice President and General Manager of Victoria Shipyards.
Martin joined Seaspan in 2023 to support the submarine program at Victoria Shipyards and was later promoted to lead the program. He has served as interim Vice President and General Manager since May.
Following 35 years of service to Canada, Martin retired from the Royal Canadian Navy with the rank of Captain. Throughout his distinguished naval career, he held a variety of operational, engineering and leadership roles on both coasts, including senior positions overseeing fleet maintenance, personnel development and major naval shipbuilding and submarine programs. He also spent three years with the Canadian Delegation to NATO during the Afghanistan War.

Prior to joining Seaspan, Martin worked for General Dynamics, where he helped establish support subcontracts and planning for the Halifax-class Combat System In-Service Support Contract.
Throughout his career, Martin has earned a reputation as a collaborative and respected leader who develops people, solves complex challenges and delivers results. His blend of operational experience, technical expertise and commitment to strong teams positions him well to lead Victoria Shipyards into its next chapter.
