“We are often told that tugboats are no place for women.”
That outdated sentiment is why Seaspan Marine recently held a ‘Women in Marine’ Open House and networking event designed to support, inspire and encourage diversity – both at sea and on shore.
The event attracted participants from Kitimat, Vancouver Island and across the Lower Mainland and they received the same message: there is a place for you in the marine industry and we welcome you.
Over the next decade, 43 percent of Canada’s marine industry workforce will retire and to fill those vacancies the industry needs to raise its profile and remove barriers that historically prevented crew diversity.
We covered the ‘Women in Marine’ event and did our best to capture the inspiration and excitement from marine industry leaders and our next generation of mariners.
