Expeditor
Key Responsibilities
- Provides short and long term operation support (operational planning, receiving third party orders, monitoring/recording real time, and assembling billing).
- Receives and manages operational calls direct from/to customers (communications to hire charter boats, providing job info to vendors, ensures customer orders are complete and time).
- Supports dispatch by receiving Harbour and River third party orders (processing paperwork and creating customer orders within HELM marine operating system).
- Tracks, manages and communicates equipment maintenance status of tugs and barges.
Required Education
- Grade 12 diploma
- Post secondary Diploma in Transportation and Logistics, Business Management, Information Technology (or equivalent)
Dispatcher
Key Responsibilities
- Allocates and updates cost effective scheduling and dispatching of tugs, coordinates with other dispatchers on arrivals and departures of tows so that internal resources are re-deployed before hiring external charters.
- Coordinates with Marine Personnel and Dispatch regarding crew changes and any crewing/personnel issues.
- Coordinates repair needs/dock days with Engineering. Monitors repair status and availability.
- Handles all front-line complaints from customers, facilities personnel, and the public, on tug and shipboard personnel.
- Acts as first response for all tug and barge related emergencies.
Required Education
- Grade 12 diploma
- Post secondary Diploma in Transportation and Logistics, Business Management, Information Technology (or equivalent)
- Deck Officer Certification with Transport Canada
Dispatch Supervisor
Key Responsibilities
- Allocates and updates cost effective scheduling/dispatching of coastal tugs, coordinates with Marine Personnel for crew changes/dispatch, and coordinates with Purchasing for delivery of food and supplies to each vessel.
- Coordinates work, holidays, and training schedules for Dispatchers and Expeditors.
- Oversees River and Harbour Dispatch Desks, Coordinates arrivals and departures between Dispatchers.
- Manages complaints and answer public inquiries.
- Maintains job data recordings and utilization matrix. Provide weekly operational updates to the Manager of Dispatch and Marine Personnel.
Required Education
- Grade 12 Diploma
- Post secondary Diploma in Transportation and Logistics, Business Management, Information Technology (or equivalent)
- Deck Officer Certification with Transport Canada
Dispatch Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Reviews scheduling and dispatching of vessels by dispatchers to ensure safety, efficiency and regulation compliance. Reviews and adjusts daily summary logs.
- Coordinates between Marine Personnel, Traffic Coordinators, Engineering and Dispatcher for crew and tug capability in relation to the job.
- Reviews use of charter hire with dispatchers to optimize the tug fleet, maintains good working relationship with charter companies and negotiates charter rates.
- Assists Personnel and Dispatch with crewing issues and conducts regular boat visits.
- Coordinates ship towing/rescue (offshore and coastal) jobs.
Required Education
- Post secondary Diploma in Business, Operation Management, Transportation and Logistics, or equivalent amount of sea time in a Masters capacity.
