Seaspan recognizes that we operate our shipyards on the traditional land of the Coast Salish people both in North Vancouver and on Vancouver Island. As a good neighbour, it is our goal to foster strong relationships with First Nations in our communities. Over the years, we have developed strong business ties with the Squamish, Tsleil Waututh, Haisla, Songhees, Esquimalt, Snuneymuxw and Old Masset First Nations.
Seaspan is a partner in AMTEP ( Aboriginal Marine Training to Employment Partnership), with ACCESS (Aboriginal Community Career Employment Services Society) and CSETS (Coast Salish Employment and Training Society), to support job training, apprenticeship programs and promote employment opportunities for Aboriginal people.
Seaspan’s procurement policy has been modified to support First Nations businesses. During our Shipyard Modernization Project between 2012 – 2014, we spent over $21 Million with First Nations owned and Joint Venture companies.
