The Engineer is responsible for the day to day operation of the machinery found on the ship or tug, including main engines ranging from 1200 to 5750 horsepower, auxiliary engines, pumps and winches. The position is required to work in tight spaces such as the engine room bilge, and working with heavy pieces of equipment.
Certifications required for the position include at a minimum a Third Class Motor Certificate, all Marine Emergency Duty courses including C and D, the senior officers’ courses, Marine Advanced First Aid, and a Transport Canada Medical. Some of our vessels require either a Second or a First Class Motor Certificate. The Engineer must be able to direct and properly use all safety and fire fighting equipment on the vessel.
