John is a graduate of the Naval Architecture program of the College of Fisheries, Navigation and Marine Electronics in St John’s NFLD, now known as the Marine Institute of Memorial University. Upon graduation, John worked with several Vancouver area naval architecture firms, gaining experience in vessel design, full scale testing and trials, and construction. This included eight years at Robert Allan Ltd., a design company with close ties to Seaspan and its affiliates. In 1996, John joined Seaspan working in the maintenance and repair department looking after the barge fleet. Since joining Seaspan, John has continued to work on the maintenance, design and construction of the company’s fleet.
As Vice President, Fleet Maintenance John has responsibility for management and planning of the repair and maintenance budgets and the necessary supervision and project management, and leads a diverse team of marine engineers, mechanics and specialist tradespersons who operate and maintain Seaspan’s fleet of tugs and barges. This includes the operation of the company’s own maintenance facilities, work crews, and sea going engineering personnel.
