National Shipbuilding Strategy

Seaspan Shipyards is proud to have been competitively selected as the non-combat shipbuilder for the Government of Canada under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS). The Government of Canada and Seaspan Shipyards have entered into a long-term strategic relationship to build vessels for the Canadian Coast Guard and the Royal Canadian Navy. This long-term initiative to renew Canada’s fleet of large ships is helping to:

  • Deliver state-of-the-art Canadian-built vessels – Built to the precise specifications of the Canadian Coast Guard and the Royal Canadian Navy, these vessels will help to ensure that Canada’s women and men in uniform have the tools required for the tasks at hand.
  • Rebuild Canada’s shipbuilding industry – With reliable work, Seaspan Shipyards and Canada’s shipbuilding industry are able to plan and invest for the long-term, ensuring that the industry escapes the boom-and-bust nature that has plagued it over the past several decades.
  • Create jobs and spur economic growth – Seaspan Shipyard’s NSS-related work will help to create and sustain more than 2,300 Canadian jobs over the first ten years of the program and generate billions in economic activity.
