Centre of Excellence

Canada’s West Coast Centre of Excellence for Shipbuilding and Ship Repair

Sir John Franklin being built at the Vancouver Shipyard

Vancouver Shipyards is a multi-purpose facility and the most modern of its kind in North America. Thanks to a $170M investment made by the company and without any government support, Seaspan Shipyards has significantly upgraded and improved Vancouver Shipyards.

The major improvements to Vancouver Shipyards capabilities are a direct result of the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) work it is engaged in. The NSS has given Seaspan Shipyards and the broader marine industry the confidence to invest in modern and efficient equipment and infrastructure. It has also seen the broader industry transformed as it works to deliver on this ambitious and predictable package of ships.

In addition to seeing Seaspan Shipyards facilities transformed, the NSS has provided an opportunity for the company to invest in its processes and workforce. As a result, Vancouver Shipyards and the broader Seaspan organization are uniquely equipped to deliver ships for the Government of Canada.
